Many Americans Prepare For Adulthood By Pursuing Careers,
Many Americans prepare for adulthood by pursuing careers, building families and investing in homes. However, very few of us really think of old age and how it will impact our families. As stated by Greg Link in his journal, ââ¬Å"The Administration for Community Living: Programs and Initiatives Providing Family Caregiver Supportâ⬠, ââ¬Å"for many older people, the ability to remain living at home in the community is often contingent upon consistent support provided by a family caregiverâ⬠(Link, 2015, p. 57). In essence, the authors point is that in order for older adults to live with dignity and age in place in their homes they require assistance from another individual. Furthermore, care takers play an imperative role in the lives of aging adults.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In addition, as mentioned previously many of the caregivers become overwhelmed and overworked and for that reason the program offers respite services. Some of the respite services can be found in the adult day care units of senior centers. Finally, the New York Elder Care Support Program offers supplemental services to caregivers. To clarify supplemental services are services that help the elder adult age in the home for example: transportation services, home modifications such as wheel chair ramps, bath chairs or home delivered meals (Office for the Aging, 2016). My observation of the services offered by the program is that is although they help the caretaker by assisting them in the care of the older adult the program also benefits the elderly person because the caretaker is learning techniques and skills that will help them better accommodate the aging adult also, the caretaker I would assume from the support being granted to them is better informed and can make more conscious decisions on the aging persons behalf which again works in favor or the older person. As per the respite services, it is my observation from interning at ARC XVI Fort Washington Senior Center that participants of theShow MoreRelatedThe Importance Of College Education1593 Words à |à 7 Pagesto send their kids to college. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - 594 Words
In ââ¬Å"Jane Eyreâ⬠by Charlotte Bronte, Jane finds herself loved by two different men, with two different intentions, and two different personalities. On one hand is Edward Rochester, who inherited a large fortune from his father. He was burned by past relationships before he met Jane. St. John Rivers, a minister from Morton, is cold and reserved. In many ways he serves as a FOIL character to Rochester. The latter part of the novel deals with Janeââ¬â¢s struggle to choose between the two men, where she ultimately chooses Rochester. With feminism being a strong theme of ââ¬Å"Jane Eyreâ⬠, Bronte gave Jane a powerful voice, and a sensible thought process. The decision to marry Rochester was based on her independent views and obstinate personality. Raised in the Victorian era, the concept of ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠had barely been introduced into Janeââ¬â¢s life. She was harshly abused by her Aunt Reed as a child, dealt with the loss of a friend (Helen Burns), and was taught to think less of herself by Mr. Brocklehurst of Lowood. All things considered, Jane developed trust issues and was resistant to both men initially. Though she learns to love both men, it is Rochester who eventually steals her heart. The reasons may not be clear at first, but upon further analysis, her reasons become very clear. Embrace by Billy Collins free essay sample
ââ¬Å"Embraceâ⬠By Billy Collins The most effective way for a poem to speak to the reader is by using a way of indirectly representing an image or an event. When the poet uses a filter, or a metaphor, he makes a figurative instead of a literal reference. Taking a look at Billy Collinsââ¬â¢ poem, ââ¬Å"Embraceâ⬠it is easy to think that the whole message from beginning to end is that this person was feeling lonely enough to hold himself. He is a little over the edge, and since there is no one around to embrace him, he has resorted to embracing himself. That is what the poem is about, a temporary condition of emptiness and one manââ¬â¢s Band-Aid. But it also suggests a bigger point about human nature and an individualââ¬â¢s perspective about life. It is normal to be uncertain about your particular condition, but a pattern of acting out in unconventional ways can sometimes drive a person crazy. We will write a custom essay sample on Embrace by Billy Collins or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The image of a man hugging himself tightly is not hard to picture. It is easy to imagine and that is why it serves as a good metaphor. In this poem, it is like a cry for help. This man is so desperate he is hugging himself tightly enough to be strapped in with a straitjacket. It wouldnââ¬â¢t seem like an act of desperation without putting the image in the readerââ¬â¢s head of the man in a straitjacket. Also, it would seem that he may be joking around if it werenââ¬â¢t for his face being plastered with a ââ¬Å"screwy grinâ⬠. That is not the face of someone in a normal mental state, so it is reasonable to infer that he is sad or disturbed. The action of this man is representative of different points of view. From one angle, it is a couple in an embrace, from another; it is a crazy, lonely man. This poem is a portrait of neither Billy Collins nor his foil, but of a persona representing the average human being. Not to suggest every person is desperate and lonely, but saying that he might be so if he were lost with no distinct identity or anyone to love him. The perspective of the back of this man, the couple embracing, is like the mask of the manââ¬â¢s true feelings. This illusion is referred to as a ââ¬Å"party trickâ⬠and seems like the kind of thing one might do to entertain his or her riends for a few cheap laughs. This man is the kind of man who does not express his despair to other people, but makes them believe that he is not only all right, but content with his life. Is he hoping that this semblance will attract people and convince them that he is lovable? That is what all people want, someone in their lives to care about them and to keep them company. Not many people are quick to tell another person about whatââ¬â¢s burdening them; they give the appearance of being all right most of the time, even when they are far from it. It is as if they are hugging themselves to make other people think they are loved and cared for. From the front, it is apparent that he is actually hugging himself and looking like a crazy idiot. It is shameful and needs to be hidden from view. This side of the coin makes him look unstable and desperate for love. It is symbolic of everyoneââ¬â¢s secret shame. Although not every human being is on the edge of insanity with loneliness and desperation squeezing out good judgment, no one is happy and content with every aspect of their life. This does not only pertain to love, but the main focus is on relationships and identities. Billy Collinââ¬â¢s simple, matter-of-fact language is helpful in giving the impression that this is not a mental breakdown. The man is just acting like a human being. Collins does not even say that the straitjacket is some kind of frightening constraint, but he only says it would hold him extremely tightly. He does not pity his subject, he just thinks of it as being simply a fact. His unconcerned diction represents that it is a common occurrence in humans and is not the kind of thing to be alarmed about. Billy Collinââ¬â¢s imagery, use of casual language, and description of strange behavior, all help make the message clear that every human being has times of insecurity and desperation. Every person also has a way of covering this up whether itââ¬â¢s by lying, living in denial, or simply hugging oneself. This poem may seem simple, but it has many ways it could be interpreted and applied to many peopleââ¬â¢s lives. If someone does not believe they have anything wrong with them at any time, ever, well then they are the ones who need serious mental help.

Linear Regression of Job Satisfaction
Linear regression plots a line between our data that minimizes the least squared difference between the data points and the regression line (Wooldridge 2009). This model allows us to generate estimates of the magnitude of impact of a one-unit increase in our independent variable on our dependent variable on average in the population of interest (Moore, McCabe Craig, 2009).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Linear Regression of Job Satisfaction specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More It makes a few key assumptions, mostly that the individualsââ¬âand specifically, the residuals, or the distances between these data points and the lineââ¬âare independently and identically distributed (Wooldridge 2009). If these assumptions are met, this approach is the best linear unbiased estimator. This generalized linear model is the basis for other statistical procedures, like ANOVA and t-tests (Trochim 2006a). We plan to analyze our data using this method of analysis to assess three research questions: how self-rated satisfaction on intrinsic, extrinsic, and overall job satisfaction scales, respectively, predicts satisfaction with employer benefits. Specifically, these variables are all continuous variables that measure how people rank their satisfaction on a range from 1 to 7. Association of Benefits and Intrinsic Job Satisfaction In order to assess the extent to which intrinsic job satisfaction predicts satisfaction with benefits, we can fit the following regression line: where benefits is our dependent variable (or ââ¬Å"yâ⬠), represents the constant, or the intercept; represents the coefficient associated with the effect of a unit increase in the intrinsic score, and is the error term for each individual in the regression. Our results suggest that there is a small, positive, non-significant relationship between intrinsic satisfaction and benefits. Specifically, our intercept is 5.199 and the slop e of the line, or the one unit difference in the intrinsic score, is 0.033. In other words, a score of 0 on the intrinsic scale would be associated with a 5.2 (though this is out of the range of our data, since the scale does not go to 0), and a one unit increase in the intrinsic score would raise the benefits score, on average, by 0.032 points. While the intercept is significantly different from 0 (p0.001), the intrinsic variable is not significantly different than 0 (p=0.49). Our results suggest that there is a small, negative, significant relationship between extrinsic satisfaction and benefits. Specifically, our intercept is 6.35 and the slope of the line, or the one unit difference in the intrinsic score, is -0.19. In other words, a score of 0 on the extrinsic scale would be associated with a 6.4 (though this is out of the range of our data, since the scale does not go to 0), and a one unit increase in the extrinsic score would lower the benefits score, on average, by -0.19 points. The intercept and extrinsic score are both significantly different from 0 (p0.001. The correlation coefficient of this model, or the extent of the variation in the benefits outcome explained by this model, is 0.42, which is quite larg e. Association of Benefits and Overall Job Benefits In order to assess the extent to which overall job satisfaction predicts satisfaction with benefits, we can fit the following regression line: where benefits is our dependent variable (or ââ¬Å"yâ⬠), represents the constant, or the intercept; represents the coefficient associated with the effect of a unit increase in the overall score, and is the error term for each individual in the regression. Our results suggest that there is a small, positive, non-significant relationship between overall satisfaction and benefits. Specifically, our intercept is 5.73 and the slope of the line, or the one unit difference in the overall score, is -0.13. In other words, a score of 0 on the overall scale would be associated with a 5.7 (though this is out of the range of our data, since the scale does not go to 0), and a one unit increase in the overall score would lower the benefits score, on average, by -0.13 points. While the intercept is si gnificantly different from 0 (p0.001), the overall variable is not significantly different than 0 (p=0.18).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Linear Regression of Job Satisfaction specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The correlation coefficient of this model, or the extent of the variation in the benefits outcome explained by this model, is 0.06, which is quite small. Comparing Results The results were markedly different with respect to the direction and magnitude of the effect of the satisfaction scales. For example, intrinsic had a very small, positive effect, though it was not significant, while the other two scales had a negative relationship. It might be that the extrinsic perceptions of satisfaction are inversely related with benefitsââ¬âfor someone who really likes their work, benefits matter less. However, for someoneââ¬â¢s instrinsic satisfaction, benefits are positively associatedââ¬âthe intrinsic ly happier with the job, the happier with the benefits. However, it could also be that the direction of the intrinsic variable is due to chance. It wasnââ¬â¢t significantly different from 0 and could be a function of small sample size. The extrinsic regression produced a very high correlation coefficient, which further makes the point that its association with benefits satisfaction is strong. As mentioned earlier, it could be that extrinsic satisfaction and benefits are strongly correlated in a way that other factors are not necessary for explaining their effects. Choosing an I Essay Sample
Choosing an I Essay SampleOne of the most crucial parts of writing an I essay is choosing an appropriate essay sample. Some people prefer to choose a sample that was given to them by a college, while others choose one that is free to access on the Internet. Regardless of which you choose, you need to make sure that you learn as much as you can about this particular topic. It is the best way to find out what essay writers will expect and want from you, if not how much they are willing to pay for it.There are many sources that offer sample essays for almost any topic that you can think of. Usually these will cost money, but a lot of people don't mind paying for something that is of high quality. You should choose one that fits your level of knowledge.Although writing an I essay can be very difficult, especially if you do not have enough knowledge about the subject, you can still choose one of the many sample essays for your practice. This will let you know if you have chosen the right topic for your own essay. It will also let you know if you understand all of the material given in the essay. If you have already decided to write an essay about that topic, there are a couple of things that you need to do before you start writing. First of all, you need to choose a topic that you know a little bit about. You can choose it based on your own interests or those of the reader. The more information you can gather about a topic, the better. For some students, their coursework will give them plenty of information, but for others they can't get enough of it. Most good essay writers usually find themselves at a point where they need to write an essay, but they do not have enough information to begin. As long as you can supply them with enough information to begin, that will help them with their topic. When you do choose a sample essay, you will want to make sure that you check it carefully. You need to make sure that you read through it as often as possible, making notes. This will help you with your writing, since you will be able to remember where you came from and what the essay is actually about. A good essay writer will know that they are supposed to be writing about something that they know, so a note when reading a sample will be very helpful.Just remember that the more information you can gather, the better. You should not forget to take notes when doing your writing process, so that you can refer back to what you have learned and use it to improve your essays.

Go back to ESL essays
Go back to ESL essays On September 22nd, 2004, all of the 3rd period Transition English students went to the ESL class on period 3. We went to ESL class because that we needed to teach them what a portfolio is and what they should do when they are doing a portfolio. At that time, I found out that my English is become better and better than the time when I arrived to the U.S. at March, 2004. I was really happy for it. And because of my English is better, so I could help and teach the new ESL students how, why, and what they should do their portfolio. At the begging of the period, I went into the Transition English classroom having roll. Then my Transition English teacher Mrs. Snyder took our Transition English students to go into ESL classroom. After we went in, ESL students introduced themselves. For sure, we introduced ourselves after them. Then, ESL teacher Miss Livingston got ESL students into groups with our Transition English students. After we got in groups, we began the conversation about portfolio. In my group, there are three ESL students and three Transition English students. However, I wanted to show those new students my portfolio but I could not. Because my portfolio was in Taiwan, so I borrowed anther person's portfolio to show the ESL students how and what they need to do for the portfolio. When I explained and talked with them, I found out that my English become better than the time I just arrived here. So it made me feel happy and proud of myself. So I told them that they might need to do their portfolio as hard as they can, because they will have a memory of the time they arrived here and how they did learn English and how much do they change. I hope they can accept those advices and do their best work. ...
