Interview With My Educational Experiences - 2004 Words

I began Mrs. Chambers’ interview with the first background question, like in the first two interviews, tell me about your educational experiences in school. Mrs. Chambers’ responded: I attended College Station, Texas public schools. My elementary school years were challenging. I remember in first and second grade I struggled in reading. My mother was a single parent who worked at night but she always made sure I completed my homework and read every night. It seemed as if I just couldn’t catch up with my peers even in a small group setting. I always felt like my teachers didn’t push me enough or have high expectations from me because of my inability to read as well as my peers. I knew I could read but I felt that she didn’t give me the strategies that would assist me in reading and comprehending what I’ve read. I loved math because it was always hands on. Finally, in third grade I met a teacher who realized that I needed a special program in order to be on the same level as my peers. I remember being in a pull out program and enjoying every bit of this program. I was able to work on my level and didn’t realize that I had even gotten back on grade level. This program enabled me to work on my level and assessed my comprehension of a story daily. After third grade, I never struggled in reading again because I enjoyed learning and didn’t feel as if I was struggling one bit.
